What is UVC Light?
UVC stands for (Ultraviolet-C), and is also known as UVC Germicidal Lighting and is part of the UV Light family.
UVC light refers to a type of ultraviolet (UV) light with wavelengths between 100 and 280 nanometers (nm). It is part of the ultraviolet spectrum, which also includes UVA (320-400 nm) and UVB (280-320 nm).
Does UVC Kill Germs?
UVC light works by disrupting the DNA or RNA of microorganisms. When UVC light penetrates the cells of these organisms, it causes thymine dimers to form in their DNA or RNA, disrupting their replication process. This effectively renders the microorganisms inactive or kills them, preventing them from reproducing and spreading.
More commonly referred to as a Germicidal UVC light, the science and technology behind Germicidal UV bulbs has been around for a long time, although it hasn’t been used until more recently.
The popularity and use of UV light systems is growing, which has seen new products entering the marketplace are often used in industries such as hospitals, waste water, water treatment processes and food hygiene and sanitation to stop the spread of bacteria, viruses and fungi.
